KKR Players Are Delighted To Have Abhishek Nayar Back: Spin Coach
KKR players are delighted to welcome back former batting coach Abhishek Nayar, who played a key role in their IPL 2024 win. Nayar rejoined KKR before their match against Gujarat Titans.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) players are ‘delighted’ to see the return of former batting coach Abhishek Nayar back in their dressing room, spin coach Carl Crowe said on Sunday (April 20).
Nayar was the batting coach of KKR’s IPL 2024-winning campaign. After the final, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) roped him in for the Indian men’s team. He spent eight months with the side as an assistant coach to former KKR captain and mentor Gautam Gambhir before being reportedly sacked from the job as a result of India’s Test defeats against New Zealand at home and Australia away.

He joined KKR before their clash against the Gujarat Titans. The franchise announced his return to the setup before the BCCI had confirmed his release.
“So, obviously, Abhishek’s been around the franchise for a long time, a very popular member of the coaching staff and the players communicated with him regularly for a number of years. So it’s great to have Abhishek back and no doubt have a positive impact. The players certainly appreciate all the support it gives them, and it’s great to have him back," said Crowe in Kolkata, on the eve of the team’s crucial clash
“A very positive one. Obviously, last year we were champions and he was a significant part of that. He speaks incredibly well about the game and got great connection and relationships with the players and I know they’re delighted to have him back with KKR, so he’ll be a big plus to have us on our side," Crowe.
More than a batting coach, Nayar’s public image at KKR was of a helping hand to a lot of players, especially those playing domestic cricket in India. For example, Varun Chakaravarthy made a point to mention his name while celebrating the title and KKR’s young star Angkrish Raghuvanshi considers him as family, because he has been under the coach’s wings for a long time, even living at his Mumbai home.
As the BCCI has yet to confirm the reasons behind Nayar’s sacking, reports have been rife claiming various theories, with some citing discontent between factions within the team.
