Most of the area that he wants the wall is so rugged and mountainous that it would never be possible, then there are Native tribal lands in the way that make up part of the border that the US cannot touch no matter what. Why not save the money and start enforcing employment laws? Take away the jobs, housing, education, and health care and they will stay where they are. Stop wasting massive amounts of money targeting the individual and go after those who aid them, the left over money could be used to fix what is wrong here.

 

Don't just take away the jobs, punish the employers for giving them jobs. They know they are encouraging the immigrants to come here because they know they can get jobs here.

At the same time, politicians don't really want to solve this issue because it is used as a wedge issue come election time. How many presidents have talked about fixing the problem during their first campaigns?

 

I advocate fines of $10,000 for the first violation and $25,000 for a second occurrence, if it repeats as a third shut them down and sell it off to a small investor that wants to keep the company in tact.
It is hard enough for small farms and manufacturing companies to get a start so take what would be a dead weight and sell it cheaply to people that want to grow it the right way. Jail the people who do the hiring, and if needed cut all funding that benefits illegals in any manner. Life saving medical services only and then deport them.

This is also something that can be done, should be done, and it will be just as effective.

A border wall wont stop illegals, but it can be built, should be built.

I agree that we should punish those who employ illegal immigrants. I do not feel any hostility toward the illegals at all. Most are decent, hard working people who are doing the best they can. My hostility is directed toward the American employers who would rather hire illegals at slave wages than hire American citizens at decent wages.

As far as wedge issues go, in his book What's the Matter with Kansas? How Conservatives Won the Heart of America Thomas Frank wrote that Republicans love to lose on social issues. These are the issues that anger lower income whites, and cause them to vote against their economic interests by voting Republican.

The leaders of the GOP do not really care about the Ten Commandments in court rooms. They want more immigrants so that they can lower wages and raise prices.

And for those that you claim that only come to become criminals, those numbers are based on the illegal drug trade and the war on drugs. You know that failed Nixon policy that to date has cost just over 1trillion dollars? Why add another 50 billion to that cost? It will not do anything that a few well placed officers and sensible drug laws could do? It is a failure just in policy based on the admission that you made that it would not even stop them. If there was nothing here for them they would not come, if they could not get rich selling their dope here they would not come, if they have a formal gang and come here they are declaring war.
